Digipak (Album Cover) Analysis...

One of our ancillary tasks is to create a digipak. However, unlike many other genres of music, like Pop, Indie bands and artists tend to shy away from producing digipaks. Therefore, because of this it has been quite difficult for me to find digipaks that belong to the Indie music genre, which is why I have analysed Indie album covers instead. My analysis of existing Indie album covers is embedded below:

What is a digipak?

According to Wikipedia, a digipak is a patented style of compact disc or DVD. Digipaks typically consists of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD attached to the inside. They are also typically used for special edition albums for a band or artists greatest hits.

What are the common features of a digipak?
From my research I found that most digipaks (album covers) include:

• a barcode (back)
• the record label's logo (back)
• the band's website details (back)
  copyright details (back)
• the band's name (front)
• the album title (front)
• the track listings of all of the songs in the album (back)
  

What are the advantages of digipaks?

Digipaks have a number of advantages; firstly, they are less vulnerable to cracking and breaking than a standard jewel case. Secondly, they allow for a higher level of graphic display, which makes them more appealing to audiences because they are more aesthetically pleasing. It should also be noted that they are more environomentally friendly than jewel cases, as they tend to be made from either recycled materials or card.
